Reminder: Employment Equity Submission Deadline – 15 January 2025

Employment Equity (EE) reporting deadline for 2025 is fast approaching. Employers must submit their EE reports by 15 January 2025 to remain compliant with the Employment Equity Act (EEA). This annual submission is important for demonstrating progress toward workplace equity and diversity goals.

The Employment Equity Act aims to eliminate unfair discrimination by implementing affirmative action measures. The goal is to ensure representation of previously disadvantaged groups across all occupational levels.

The EEA applies to all designated employers, defined as:

Employers with 50 or more employees, or

Employers with an annual turnover exceeding thresholds outlined in the EEA regulations, depending on the industry.

These employers are required to submit EE reports annually to the Department of Employment and Labour.

Staying compliant with the EEA is not just about meeting regulatory requirements—it’s about developing a diverse, equitable workplace.

Non-compliance can result in hefty fines, ranging from R1.5 million to 2% of an employer’s turnover, depending on the severity of the contravention.
EE compliance demonstrates your commitment to addressing historical inequities and creating a workplace that reflects South Africa’s diverse demographics.
Compliance with the EEA is an essential component of Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (BBBEE) scoring. Non-compliance could negatively impact your BBBEE rating, affecting your ability to secure government contracts or do business with companies who prioritise transformation.
